Design of a Memristor-Based Digital to Analog Converter (DAC)

Abstract: A memristor element has been highlighted in recent years and has been applied to several applications. In this work, a memristor-based digital to analog converter (DAC) was proposed due to the fact that a memristor has low area, low power, and a low threshold voltage. The proposed memristor DAC depends on the basic DAC cell, consisting of two memristors connected in opposite directions. This basic DAC cell was used to build and simulate both a 4 bit and an 8 bit DAC. Moreover, a sneak path issue was illustrate… Show more

“…It utilizes the unique properties of memristors to achieve a higher resolution and lower power consumption. The proposed circuit utilizes two symmetric memristive DACs, enabling the design of both 4-bit and 8-bit DACs, as shown in Figure 8 [56]. Furthermore, the memristive DAC eliminates the need for complex calibration techniques, resulting in simplified circuitry and reduced manufacturing costs.…”

“…Unlike, the diference current between the input sampling and the frst four MSB of the previous samples [67] is quantized in order to reduce energy as illustrated in Figure 25. A promising technique in [68] utilizes the memristor in the SAR DAC. Memristor is a dynamic memory resistor where the resistor is changed with the applied voltage.…”
