Design of a new wideband low‐profile conical antenna

Abstract: A very low‐profile conical antenna with a simple structure and wideband characteristic is proposed in this article. The antenna structure consists of a monoconical conducting body, a parasitic ring shorted to a finite‐sized ground plate to achieve low‐profile characteristic (Nakano et al., IEEE Trans Antennas Propag 56 (2008) 1187‐1192), and a sleeve attached to the ground for yielding an extreme wide VSWR bandwidth. The experimental result shows that the proposed antenna, with a height of only 0.0625 waveleng… Show more

“…The loop has the following parameters: number arc stripline sections, outer radius , inner radius , angle of each arc line section, and spacing angle between adjacent line sections. The periodic angle and the spacing angle are related to the number by (1) Periodical capacitive loading is realized by adding interlaced coupling lines at the end of each arc stripline section. As shown in Fig.…”

“…O MNIDIRECTIONAL (in the azimuth plane) antennas capable of functioning over a wideband are required in many applications, including electronic countermeasures or as calibration antenna for electromagnetic compatibility testing, and particularly in wireless telecommunications systems [1], [2]. In indoor or urban areas, although many current wireless communication systems are vertically polarized, the polarization of the propagating electromagnetic wave may change significantly after complicated multiple reflections or scattering [3].…”

“…Conical monopoles with optimized structure have been proposed. In [14], the antenna consists of a monoconical conducting body and a parasitic ring shorted to a ground plate. The diameter of this antenna is 0.22λ 0 and the ground plate is 0.93λ 0 .…”
