Design of a printed compact antenna with enhanced impedance bandwidth

Abstract: A novel compact ultrawideband planar antenna fed by a microstrip line is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a rectangular patch and a defected ground plane with a semicircular notch and two stubs. The modified ground plane is used to achieve the wide impedance bandwidth. The measured results show that the antenna has a bandwidth 2.1–2.6 GHz and 3.3–20 GHz for S11 < −10 dB. The proposed antenna exhibits the omnidirectional radiation patterns and appreciable gain across the operating band. © 2012 Wiley P… Show more

“…UWB monopole antennas are primarily designed by meeting the electrical symmetry of dipole antennas. Afterwards, some miniaturization measures like imposing slots [24][25][26], truncations [27,28], fractals [29][30][31][32], ground modifications [33][34][35], dielectric resonators [36],…”

“…In order to make a good antenna design, many challenges should be taken some more attention, for example: broadband impedance characteristic, high gain, good radiation pattern, and low cost. So how to improve the limited bandwidth of the printed antennas is one key problem for UWB application [2]. Usually, in order to meet the demands in those cases operating at a low power level under the limitation of the gain and bandwidth, it is necessary to do some research on the design of UWB antenna array.…”
