Design of a Public Vehicle Tracking Service Using Long-Range (LoRa) and Intelligent Transportation System Architecture

Abstract: Public transport vehicles are involved in a high percentage of traffic accidents in intermediate cities, mainly due to speeding and lack of control over their routing. In addition, many passengers of these vehicles report poor quality of service. To try to improve this, the authors propose a system to provide a public transport vehicle tracking service with high quality regarding accessibility, safety, and comfort. They developed an ITS architecture for this type of city following a methodology, they construct… Show more

“…Therefore, a large number of studies have put forward the concept of intelligent transportation on the existing urban traffic problems. In intelligent transportation, it is believed that the processing of traffic data can be realized by using intelligent algorithms, and the traffic pressure can be relieved by understanding the traffic conditions [1,2]. In the current research, the emphasis is on the systematic and real-time nature of intelligent transportation, which realizes the traffic management of multiple road sections through its system planning, makes timely traffic diversion through real-time nature, and ensures the convenience of people's travel [3].…”

“…Especially, with the rapid development of Internet of Vehicles technology, some related ITS frameworks appeared, such as the vehicle-to-vehicle-to-infrastructure framework [13], the vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) communication architecture [14], and the VANET architecture assisted by unmanned aerial vehicles [15]. In addition, some studies were devoted to improving subsystems of the ITS frameworks, including public transportation systems [16,17], vehicle tracking systems [18,19], ITS security systems [20][21][22], ITS information systems [23,24], and ITS communication systems [25,26]. However, most current research on the ITS frameworks combines limited emerging technologies or only focuses on the ITS subsystems.…”
