Design of a wideband Y‐shaped antenna for the application in IoT and 5G communication

Abstract: A small wideband Y-shaped antenna is presented in this paper. A monopole of Y-shaped with two rectangular-shape frequency shifting strip is used to produce a compact dimension of 10 mm  12 mm on a 1-mm-thick FR4 substrate. The antenna has an impedance bandwidth (measured below À10 dB from 39.57 to 44.63 GHz), a gain more than 4.9 dB, radiation efficiency of 81%, and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) < 2, within the bandwidth of interest, making it a viable option for 5G applications. The use of a

“…The designed antenna offers a maximum gain of almost 5 dB and an efficiency of 81.2%. Although the antenna of Mukherjee et al 34 has a bandwidth of 5 GHz, the overall antenna gain of the presented Y‐Shape antenna is lower than the proposed antenna.…”

“…The major drawbacks of the above-reported antenna 33 include an irregular radiation pattern across the whole frequency band, as well as a lower gain and a larger antenna size. In Mukherjee et al, 34 a wideband printed antenna of Y-Shape is presented, which supports the 5G bands of 26.5, 28, and 39 GHz. The designed antenna offers a maximum gain of almost 5 dB and an efficiency of 81.2%.…”

“…The reported antennas achieved a good BW with a complicated assembly and complex geometrical structure. Another work-based CPW-fed broadband slotted antenna with different shapes has been investigated in [ 44 ]. The reported antenna structure obtained fair impedance BW at multiple frequencies with computational complexity.…”

“…However, the design structures were complex, with high manufacturing precision and narrower BW. A multiband Y-shaped antenna for IoT enabled with 5G communications is presented [ 44 ]. The designed antenna was embedded on laminate and two equal-length arms were connected with the central part of the flame structure to achieve multiple resonances at the desired band of interest.…”
