Design of Alanine-Rich Short Peptides as a Green Alternative of Gas Hydrate Inhibitors: Dual Methyl Group Docking for Efficient Adsorption on the Surface of Gas Hydrates

Abstract: As the source of fossil fuels moves toward gas, pipeline flow assurance has attracted considerable efforts in developing gas hydrate inhibitors, especially kinetic inhibitors (KIs), for prevention of gas hydrate formation inside pipelines. Traditional KIs are effective but show poor biodegradability that hinders practical use in specific regions, thus prompting search for new environmentally friendly KIs. Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) that evolved by nature to prevent ice growth are such candidates. However, the … Show more

“…To confirm this, we carried out a hydrate cage identification procedure which has been widely used to determine various types of clathrate cages [64,[74][75][76]. The hydrate cage morphology is characterized based on the hydrogen-bonded networks and the structure of the rings they assemble [77].…”

“…1,2 As the main energy resource of this century, NGHs are considered to be a replacement for conventional energy resources such as coal and oil, because of their vast quantities and geospatial extent, they are less polluting and are a better feedstock for the production of petrochemical products. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9] NGHs commonly occur in complex natural environments, such as shallow permafrost, continental margin sediments worldwide or sea floor areas. 4,[10][11][12][13] There have been several methods to produce methane gas from NGH sediments, such as depressurization, chemical injection, CH 4 -CO 2 replacement, heating, and so on.…”
