Design of Amino-Functionalized Benzene-1,4-Dicarboxylic Acid-Fabricated Lanthanum-Based Metal–Organic Frameworks for Defluoridation of Water

Abstract: The present work is focused on the hydrothermal fabrication of lanthanum (La)-based metal−organic frameworks (MOFs) with the linkers of benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (BDC) and amine-functionalized BDC, namely, 2-aminobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (ABDC), which are abbreviated as La@BDC and La@ABDC, respectively. The developed La@BDC and La@ABDC MOF composites were utilized for defluoridation of water. The defluoridation capacities (DCs) of the La@BDC and La@ABDC MOF composites were found to be 4920 and 4950 mg… Show more

“…[16][17][18] MOFs have been widely investigated for their excellent capturing efficiency towards a diverse type of toxic molecules and ions in water. [19][20][21] While MOFs are composed of metal knots and organic linkers, COFs are organic structures with lightweight elements. In COFs, the pre-designed organic building blocks are connected through strong covalent bonds and are occupied in the designated 2D or 3D order (Fig.…”

“…The adsorbate pH concentration of 3 to 11 was modified with addition of 0.1 mole of HCl/NaOH. The kinetics and isotherms studies towards fluoride adsorption was conducted with taking different initial adsorbate solution of 8, 10, 12 and 14 mg/L at altered temperatures at 303, 313 and 323 K. The defluoridation capacity (DC) was calculated by following equation (1)…”

“…Fluoride is considered as vital micro-nutrient liable for the bone and dental mineralization. But excess fluoride in drinking water leads to the irremediable disease in human is described as fluorosis [1]. Therefore the tolerable limit of fluoride in drinking water is fixed as 1.5 mg/L as recommended by WHO [2].…”

“…The continuing increased industrial wastewater resulting from the rapid development of science and technology causes severe pollution on the global water environment. [1][2][3][4] The nonbiodegradable heavy metal ions are one of the main pollutants in industrial effluents, which are harmful to human health due to the gradual accumulation in the ecological environment. [5,6] Pb(II) and Ag(I) are the most toxic contaminants among the various heavy ions widely involved in industries.…”
