Design of an ultra-miniature substrate integrated waveguide filter

Abstract: An ultra-miniature modified quarter mode substrate Integrated waveguide (QMSIW) resonator is proposed. The dominant resonant mode of the proposed resonator is TE 101 mode. The area of the modified QMSIW resonator is reduced by nearly 97.3% compared with the conventional fullmode SIW resonator. With the new coupling structures, the miniaturized resonator can be properly arranged in the filter design to minimize the footprint of the circuit. A novel filter using compact modified QMSIW cavity is designed, the pro… Show more

“…This paper uses the single-layer quarter mode integrated waveguide technology [14], and achieves a broadband filter by plating a metal layer on the upper surface. SIW has the advantages of high quality factor, small size and easy integration [15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23].The layout and structure of the filter are shown in Fig. 1 and Fig.…”

“…It has the advantages of high Q value and low loss of traditional waveguide and small size of microstrip structure [12,13,14]. In the field of miniaturization, half mode, 1/4 modes, 1/8 modes, and multilayer folding techniques have been introduced [15,16,17,18], which greatly reduce the size of the filter. Some achievements have also been made in the tunable aspect of SIW filter: In [19], The frequency and bandwidth can be adjusted by using electric element and magnetic ferrite on the basis of half-mode substrate integrated waveguide.…”
