Design of Benzimidazolyl Phosphines Bearing AlterableP,OorP,N-Coordination: Synthesis, Characterization, and Insights into Their Reactivity

Abstract: A new series of hemilabile benzimidazolyl phosphines is reported. Entities in this ligand family can be easily assembled and prepared on a large scale via a simple one-pot procedure. X-ray crystallographic analyses show that the Pd metal center can coordinate in different fashions, where it relies on the size of the −PR2 group. With the same ligand scaffold, the ligand having a −PCy2 moiety displays better efficiency in expediting aromatic C–C bond-coupling reactions, while the ligand associated with a −P-t-Bu… Show more

“…A series of P,O-type indolylphosphine ligands ( Amidole-Phos ) was synthesized using a simple one-pot protocol from indole, acid chlorides, and aryl/alkylchlorophosphines (Scheme A) . Notably, the indole skeleton can be replaced by benzimidazole to afford an alterable P,O- or P,N-coordinated monophosphorus ligands (Scheme B) . These catalyst systems were found to be orthogonal in the Pd-catalyzed SMC (Scheme C) and amination of aryl chlorides (Scheme D).…”

“…6,5‐Bicyclic ring systems such as an indolyl [20a–e,30] or benzimidazolyl [21a,b,d,31] monophosphines have found applications in cross‐coupling reactions. To the best of our knowledge, no one has investigated the catalytic activity of cross‐coupling reactions based on imidazopyridines as heterocyclic ligand types.…”

“…[2] Hemilabile oxygen ligands have been synthesized using a variety of functional groups such as acetal, sulfonyl, amido, ether, sulfinamido, and phosphine oxide. [3] In this study, we synthesized a new hemilabile P,O-type ligand, N-disulfonyl bicyclic bridgehead phosphorus triamide, by combining Nsulfonyl and bicyclic bridgehead phosphorus (Figure 1a). The new ligand was employed to uncover a novel applica-tion in the Pd-catalyzed hydrosilylation of unactivated alkenes and conjugated dienes through the use of tertiary silanes (Figures 1b and c).…”
