Design of Heat-Pump Systems for Single- and Multi-Family Houses using a Heuristic Scheduling for the Optimization of PV Self-Consumption

Abstract: Heat pumps in combination with a photovoltaic system are a very promising option for the transformation of the energy system. By using such a system for coupling the electricity and heat sectors, buildings can be heated sustainably and with low greenhouse gas emissions. This paper reveals a method for dimensioning a suitable system of heat pump and photovoltaics (PV) for residential buildings in order to achieve a high level of (photovoltaic) PV self-consumption. This is accomplished by utilizing a thermal ene… Show more

“…The main conclusion of the research is that minimizing the net load variability implies increasing the PV self-consumption and reducing the peak loads [25]. Kemmler and Thomas using a heuristic scheduling optimize system of HP and PV in order to achieve a high level of SC [26]. The results show that intelligent control algorithm allows to obtain SC values from 25.3% to 41.0% during a year [26].…”

“…To reduce these CO 2 emissions, electrification of the residential building heating sector is vital. Inhere, heat pumps (HPs) and photovoltaic systems (PVs) are essential technologies [2][3][4][5]. Heat pumps are able to provide space heating (SH) and domestic hot water (DHW) using electrical energy.…”

“…Fossil fuel shortage and the increase of environmental pollution caused by the transport and power sectors have become serious global issues [1,2]. Therefore, the need for a more effective way to reduce fuel dependency and environmental pollution reduction has led to the emerging of renewable energy technologies and electric vehicles (EVs) in the power and transport sectors, respectively [3][4][5]. However, production instability of variable renewables such as wind power and solar photovoltaics and intermittent charging patterns of EVs can lead to several problems in the power grid such as growing demand peaks, voltage fluctuations, high load variability, and over-generation [6,7].…”
