Design of Miniaturized Wilkinson Power Divider With Higher Order Harmonic Suppression for GSM Application

Abstract: This paper presents a miniaturized Wilkinson power divider (WPD) with higher order harmonics suppression. The proposed power divider is designed for global system for mobile communication (GSM) application. The quarter wavelength lines of the conventional WPD are replaced by a stub loaded transmission line in order to miniaturize the circuit size. A solution, operating at 1.8 GHz center frequency, has shown that the 2nd and 3rd order harmonics are well suppressed by a level < −15 dB. Further, two differently s… Show more

“…L P is the parasitic inductance (which can be calculated using EM Simulation) and C 4 is the capacitance used to compensate for the parasitic inductance effect and improve the isolation. Hence, from Equation (11), for V 2 ¼ 0 when V 3 is excited, Z ee ¼ Z oo . From Figure 10A, we can observe that Z ee ¼ Z 0 and Z oo can be calculated from Figure 10B as:…”

“…9 Stub loaded transmission line technique resulted in a 31% size reduction with suppression up to 9th Harmonics. 11 Suppression up to 6th harmonics with a decrease of 57.5% in size has been reported. 12 Resonators have been used to design a reduced size power divider.…”

“…In Reference 14, a compact unequal Wilkinson power divider at 2 GHz using a coupled‐lines section with two shorts is presented. Some of the power dividers with harmonics suppression are reported in References 15–26. In recent years, various techniques are used to design for harmonics suppression in power dividers.…”

“…In [8], DGS and T-shaped line decrease 31%, and in [9] combination of parallel coupled line and DGS is used to miniaturize the size of WPD up to 66%, but it is not capable of suppressing up to higher order harmonics. However, all the above techniques are not capable of reducing the circuit size as well as suppressing harmonics to a greater extent.…”
