Design of New Attitude Measuring Method of Non-Spinning Projectile Based on Magnetic Sensors

Abstract: Because of the requirement of accurate measurement of projectile’s flying characteristics and limitations of the traditional attitude measuring methods, a new method based on three pairwise-orthogonal magnetic sensors only is presented for non-spinning projectiles. The characteristic ratio theory proposed in our earlier work is described in detail. In order to get the pitch angle with this theory, the mathematical relationship between magnetic sensors output and the theoretical extreme value is derived in this… Show more

“…Using the extra formula that we obtain (from formulas ( 10)-( 17)), we can solve the not-independent problem in form ula (3), but the calculation work is complex, thus we define a parameter R in the calculation as formula (18) to dramatically reduce the computing complexity. In formula (18), the left side 18) as well as formula (11) with formula ( 19). There will be two angles θ, ψ left; then considering the two approximations mentioned above, the ψ is nearly a constant in the one circle spin, so the relationship graph between R and θ can be drawn as in figure 6.…”

“…There are several methods for measuring the projectile attitude by unitizing magnetic sensors, including the two-axis non-orthogonal magnetic sensor, three-axis orthogonal magnetic sensor [ 6 , 7 ], and four-axis magnetic sensor. The non-orthogonal magnetic sensors [ 8 ] utilize two mounted non-orthogonal magnetic sensors to collect geomagnetic field data during one projectile spin cycle.…”
