Design of optical leaky wave antenna with circular and diamond Si perturbations for enhancing its performance

Abstract: In this manuscript a design of silicon on insulator (SOI)‐based dielectric (silicon nitride) Optical Leaky Wave Antenna loaded with periodic circular and diamond shape semiconductor (Si) perturbation is proposed. This optical antenna is excited at one end of dielectric waveguide. The proposed design is also compared with the existing design and the results are obtained which shows that proposed design is more efficient than the existing one. The design results in form of transmission coefficient and reflection… Show more

“…Therefore, to achieve more efficient applications of vortex beams in microwave bands, an OAM wave-generating method is extremely important to ensure optimal performance of the whole system [19,20]. Recently, many ways of vortex waves generation have been proposed [21], such as spiral phase plate [22], holographic diffraction gratings [23], spiral or twisted reflectors [24,25], and circular phased radiator arrays [26][27][28][29], etc. Among them, the phase retardation of spiral plates depends on light propagation over distances comparable to the wavelength to form wave fronts, making it unsuitable for low frequency signal transmission due to excessive size.…”

“…Graphene has the ability to support SPP (surface plasmon polariton) waves in the THz frequency range, which makes it suitable for miniaturized devices. Optical leaky wave antenna with periodic silicon (Si) perturbations give electronics tuning of radiation pattern . Silicon corrugations are created in dielectric Si nitride waveguides to tune the radiation response.…”
