Design of photonic crystal fiber with large mode area for flat-top mode generation

Abstract: We report a large mode area photonic crystal fiber with a top-hat mode field. The optical fiber has a multi-layer square structure with air holes and doped layer. A flat and top-hat-like mode intensity profile is provided through the reasonable design of the doped layer. The modal characteristics including effective mode area, dispersion and confinement loss are investigated. The proposed fiber with a top-hat mode generation may have potential applications in laser drilling, laser cleaning, imaging, spectrosco… Show more

“…Adjusting the size and arrangement of air holes in PCFs can yield extraordinary characteristics not found in traditional optical fibers, including ultrahigh birefringence, significant nonlinearity, continuous single-mode transmission, large-mode field area, and flat dispersion 16 22 Moreover, different microstructured PCFs can be flexibly fabricated using the stacked capillary drawing method, 23 3D printing method, 24 and extrusion method 25 . To date, several PCF-based PRs have been proposed 26 …”
