Design of WDM Cross Connect Based on Interleaved AWG (IAWG) and a Phase Shifter Array

Abstract: Abstract-A general design rule for interleaved arrayed waveguide gratings (IAWGs) is derived. A 1 × N WDM switch that is based on a phase shifter array, which is sandwiched between two N -IAWGs, is systematically analyzed. A practical design example of a 1 × 4 nonblocking wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) switch is detailed to illustrate the design steps and the required phase assignment of each phase shifter for various output states. Based on the reciprocity principle, a simplified structure of the 1 × … Show more

“…In an Interleave-Chirped AWG (IC-AWG), the array is divided in M subsets. Within each subset, whose waveguides are spaced Md ω at x 1 and x 2 , an additional floor length (related to λ 0 ) is introduced [11]. The division of the array in M subsets reduces the original BZ size by a factor M, as will be formulated in detail in the following sections.…”

“…Consequently, the incremental length between arrayed waveguides ∆l in each subarray is 40.69 µm. To produce four equal-power outputs with the relations of a 90 • optical hybrid, the chirp pattern used is [0, 3λ 0 / (8n c ) , 0, −λ 0 / (8n c )] [11]. The width of the BZs is 1/4 of the BZs of the AWG without chirp.…”

Figure(13)(14)(15)(16)(17)(18)(19): show oscilloscope visualizer and the amplitude versus time for the output (channel_2 to channel_8) after direct detection by PIN Photo detector, all output signals appear very good in shape. The violation in signals refers to the collecting data at the receiver side.…”
