Abstract:Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) is a common procedure for patients managed in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). PDT has equivalent complication rates to surgical tracheostomy but can be performed at the ICU bedside, eliminating delays in the procedure. However, PDT complications associated with initial needle insertion into the trachea still exist and can cause severe consequences such as pneumothorax, major haemorrhage, and death. Robotic technology is a powerful adjunct to assist manual surgery, impr… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
