Design Simulation and Data Analysis of an Optical Spectrometer

Abstract: Spectrometers have a wide range of applications ranging from optical to non-optical spectroscopy. The need for compact, portable, and user-friendly spectrometers has been a focus of attention from small laboratories to the industrial scale. Here, the Czerny Turner configuration-based optical spectrometer simulation design was carried out using ZEMAX OpticStudio. A compact and low-cost optical spectrometer in the visible range was developed by using diffraction grating as a dispersive element and a USB-type web… Show more

“…Ray tracing simulations are widely used to design, optimize and analyze optical systems. Its applications are diverse, ranging from designing spectrometers (Naeem et al, 2022) or telescopes (Zhang et al, 2023), to understanding the optics of the human eye (Hong et al, 2011;Simpson, 2020;van Vught et al, 2022). Moreover, in ophthalmology, ray tracing is used to optimize the outcomes of cataract surgery (Artal et al, 2023;Canovas & Artal, 2011) and evaluate the accuracy of ocular radiotherapy (Jaarsma-Coes et al, 2023).…”

“…A general-purpose motorized translational stage (Z825B; Thorlabs, Inc.) is controlled by LabVIEW (NI, Inc.). 20 It moves in micro or nanometre steps depending on the experimental requirements. The spectrometer captures the spectrum at each step of the translation stage.…”

“…Figure 1A shows a conventional FROG setup when the PMMA sample is introduced just before the beam splitter (BS) to temporally and spatially overlap two arms of pulses at the SHG crystal. A general‐purpose motorized translational stage (Z825B; Thorlabs, Inc.) is controlled by LabVIEW (NI, Inc.) 20 . It moves in micro or nanometre steps depending on the experimental requirements.…”

“…When the image plane tilt is set, the plus lens and the minus lens could have lower curvature and focal power. And according to the aberration expressions (15) to (19), lower focal power means lower spherical aberration, coma, astigmatism and field curvature, which is preferable for large aperture lens design.…”

“…In these applications, the target spectral signal is often very faint and can easily be overwhelmed by background signals. As a result, detectors such as CCDs, CMOS sensors, and InGaAs arrays must exhibit high sensitivity and typically require long integration times [14][15][16]. These factors limit the performance of fiber optic spectrometers.…”
