Designing and Testing a Treatment Adherence Model Based on the Roy Adaptation Model in Patients With Heart Failure: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study

Abstract: Background Adherence to treatment is an important factor to decrease repeated and costly hospitalization owing to heart failure (HF). The explanation and prediction of medication adherence and other lifestyle recommendations in chronic diseases, including HF, are complex. Theories lead to a better understanding of complex situations as well as the process of changing behavior and explain the reasons for the existence of a problem. Objective The aim of this study is to r… Show more

“…It holds that humans are an overall adaptive system and an organic whole with biological, psychological, and social attributes continuously interacting with the physical and social environment and using adaptive strategies to continuously adapt to various stimuli in the internal and external environments. The method is presented in four adaptive modes, namely physiological function, self-concept, role function, and interdependence to promote the physical, psychological, and social integrity of patients, and improve health (18,19). This study followed the basic steps of the RAM, and saw the primary and secondary assessments, nursing problems, and related factors determined for each patient, resulting in individualized and targeted nursing interventions and health education.…”

“…Through the development of seamless nursing combined with Roy adaptive psychological nursing intervention, the patients' bad cognition is changed, and cognitive reconstruction is carried out, so that the patients can consciously get rid of the unstable factors in daily life, and adopt relaxation techniques to effectively deal with all aspects of pressure, and then establish healthy behavior and psychological methods can effectively improve the quality of life of patients. [22] In this study, the health knowledge level, self-care skills, self-care responsibility, and self-concept of the observation group after nursing in this study were higher than those of the control group, while the score of depression and mood disorder was significantly lower than that of the control group, indicating that seamless nursing combined with Roy adaptive psychological nursing can effectively improve self-care ability of patients after acute abdomen surgery. This may be related to the following advantages of Roy adaptation model: after the patient's physiological and psychological adaptation mechanism is strengthened, the scope of adaptation continues to expand, and its ability to tolerate stimuli increases.…”
