“…These aspects can be studied using standard tools of macroeconomic theory, such as the output and income multiplier, models of exogenous and endogenous growth, and models of regional/national development applied to the tourism case. In particular, the empirical analyses are conducted using different methodological approaches, while Dwyer et al (2009) argue that economic contribution of tourism and economic impact of tourism should not be confused. While economic contribution of tourism measures the size and overall significance of the industry within economy, economic impact refers to the changes in the economic contribution resulting from specific activities or events that comprise 'shocks' to the tourism system (Dwyer, Forsyth and Dwyer, 2010).…”

“…Accordingly, researchers seek to investigate the role of tourism in socio-economic development of host communities in different levels of settlements. Tourism is of such an importance that it is believed to be a social phenomenon (Hultman & Hall, 2011) and considering its multi-dimensional nature, it does play a significant role in empowering the host community and enhancing the socio-economic changes (Dwyer et al, 2009& Ateljevic, 2007. Rural tourism is one of the developing subsidiaries of tourism which has an increasing number of advocates.…”

“…Mass coastal tourism such as that found in Spain in the 60s and 70s has given way to a more sophisticated and differentiated set of product markets. Thus we speak today of types of tourism such as ecotourism, urban tourism, and heritage tourism; that grow and decline in popularity due to numerous factors within the external environment (see Dwyer et al, 2009, for a discussion of these factors). One external factor of critical importance that has emerged over the past decade is the recognition of the impact of human activity on the environment through pollution, and the consequent effects such as global warming.…”
