Detailed Kinetic Study of the Partial Oxidation of Methane over La2O3Catalyst. Part 1:  Experimental Results

Abstract: A complete kinetic study of the partial oxidation of methane has been performed in a "catalytic jet-stirred reactor". The main goal of this study was to elucidate the interactions between gas-phase reactions and surface reactions and to propose a detailed heterogeneous-homogeneous mechanism. The catalyst used in this study was lanthanum oxide (La 2 O 3 ). Various kinetic parameters were considered, including the temperature, the residence time, the contact time, and the amount of catalyst. The results revealed… Show more

“…However, it should be noted that the apparent activation energy for NiCeZrZ-CP under differential conditions, at a conversion of less than 20% was found to be 64 kJmol -1 which is in good agreement with Fleys et al [48] who quoted 54.4 kJmol -1 under similar conditions.…”

“…Experimental jet-stirred reactors 26 are designed according to strict criteria so that mass and thermal gradients are eliminated. The kinetic energy of the inlet gas entering the reactor through three or four nozzles enables good mixing in the gas phase except for in a thin boundary layer close to the vessel wall.…”

“…Lanthanum oxide have been used for oxidation of methane 18,19 , methane dry reforming 20 and trans-esterification reactions 21,22 . However, Lanthanum oxide (La 2 O 3 ) is highly hygroscopic in nature and readily converts to Lanthanum hydroxide under atmosphere conditions.…”
