Detailed Modeling and Experimental Assessments of Automotive Dry Clutch Engagement

Abstract: The characteristics of the clutch engagement process would have significant influences on the torque transmissibility and operation comfort. However, some crucial components are simplified in many previous literature, which would cause imprecision. Therefore, it is important to build a detailed mathematical model of these components and inspect the whole process of clutch engagement. In order to improve the torque transmissibility and achieve better pedal releasing comfort, solutions based on the modeling of t… Show more

“…is the force of the release bearing acting on the release fork, and is the force of the release fork acting on the piston rod. The Almen-Laszlo formula is often used to indicate the force of the diaphragm acting on the pressure plate [30][31][32][33]. The force of the diaphragm acting on the pressure plate can be expressed in Equation (6).…”

“…The clutch transmitting torque can be expressed as a third-order polynomial concerning the big end displacement of the diaphragm spring [22]. The clutch actuator is an air cylinder controlled by the solenoid valves, and the piston displacement is proportional to the big end displacement of the diaphragm spring.…”
