Schistosomiasis is one of the most neglected parasitic diseases in the world. The new neglected tropical diseases road map 2021–2030, adopted by the World Health Assembly, set global goals for the elimination of schistosomiasis. The current treatment options like praziquantel for schistosomiasis are limited. This review on nanoparticle-based treatments for schistosomiasis explores various upcoming technologies. Nanoparticle-based treatments and vaccines have emerged as a promising approach to overcome praziquantel therapeutic limitations by providing targeted and sustained delivery of drugs. Using the literature databases, the search was performed using the syntax Schistosoma, praziquantel, and schistosomiasis. nanoparticles, published between 2010- 2023. The bibliometric analysis showed that there has been a decline in the number of research reports and clinical trials in recent years. With increased funding and collaboration, this technology can be used to develop safe, effective, and affordable treatments that can save millions of lives. Our discussion wants to raise awareness and advocate for increased support for nanoparticle-based research and development for this neglected tropical disease.
