“…From the remaining 30 records, 13 articles were excluded in the full‐text reading stage: four articles were in vitro studies (Berdouses et al, 2015; Duong, Kabir & Kuo, 2021, Duong, Nguyen et al, 2021; Ghaedi et al, 2014), four articles had different outcome measures than dental caries (Eto et al, 2022; Li et al, 2021; Muramatsu et al, 2022; Takahashi et al, 2021), three articles used different imagery data from oral photographs (Casalegno et al, 2019; Holtkamp et al, 2021; Schwendicke et al, 2020), one article used artificial caries (Kositbowornchai et al, 2006), and one article did not report on the performance measures (Guijarro‐Rodríguez et al, 2020). After manually screening the reference lists, two other studies were added, and the 19 included studies were ultimately processed for data extraction (Askar et al, 2021; Ding et al, 2021; Javid et al, 2020; Jiang et al, 2021; Khan et al, 2022; Kim et al, 2021; Kühnisch et al, 2022; Liu et al, 2020; Moutselos et al, 2019; Navarro et al, 2019; Park et al, 2022; Rashid et al, 2022; Saini et al, 2021; Sonavane et al, 2021; Thanh et al, 2022; Wang et al, 2020; Yu et al, 2020; Zhang et al, 2020, 2022).
