Detection of CD5 in B-cell chronic lymphoproliferative diseases by flow cytometry: a strong expression in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Abstract: Cavalcanti Júnior GB, Sales VSF, Silva DGKC, Lopes MCA, Paiva AS, Fonseca HEM, Nascimento Júnior FF, Fernandes MZ. Detection of CD5 in B-cell chronic lymphoproliferative diseases by flow cytometry: a strong expression in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Acta Cir Bras [serial on line] Available from: URL: htt://www.scielo.br/acb. ABSTRACT -Purpose:CD5 is a T cell marker, aberrantly express in B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Other chronic B cell malignancies includ… Show more

“…For the hematological parameters of the patients, the mean Hb level was 11.50±2.49 g/dl (Mean ±SD) and the mean platelet count was 163.85±76.10x 109 /L (Mean ± SD) and absolute lymphocyte count in the peripheral blood was 49.19 ± 49.75 × 109 / L (Mean ± SD) , these results were comparable to the Iraqi studies results (11,20) also by Western study by (Cavalcanti Júnior GB et al 2005). ( 21) Bone marrow involvement by leukemic cells or by other pathology like splenic pooling are the most probable causes of anemia and thrombocytopenia in these patients .…”

“…The membrane phenotype of the B-PLL is quite distinct from that of B-CLL The expression of CD5+, CD19+, CD23+and the absence of FMC7 surface markers are routinely used as diagnostic criteria in patients with B-CLL [15,25]. In addition, the absence of expression of FMC7 is one of the most reliable markers that differentiated B-CLL from other B cell neoplasms [25] and, moreover, CD5 negativity can help distinguish between B-CLL and B-PLL [26]. The CD23 antigen negatively correlates with prolymphocyte infiltration of the BM and PB lymphocyte counts [27].…”
