Detection of Epstein Barr Virus Infection in Reactive Arthritis Patients

Abstract: Reactive arthritis (ReA) is an incendiary joint inflammation that occurs few days to weeks after a gastrointestinal or genitourinary infection. The etiology of the disease is not well-known. Therefore, the present study included 80 females and 25 males, divided into 51 patients with reactive arthritis and 54 healthy individuals as control group.  The study involved the detection of serum levels of anti-rheumatoid factor and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP) as well as those of CRP and C3 … Show more

“…The list of biomarkers that aid the physician in decision making regarding diagnosis and prognosis of the disease activity has remained very limited [7,8], and includes mostly antinuclear antibody (ANA), anti-dsDNA antibodies, complement 3 protein(C3), complement 4 protein (C4) and leukopenia [9]. Those are now insufficient to use in the management of disease and it is, therefore necessary to identify reliable and advanced new biomarkers [10].…”

“…Moreover, hyperglycemia frequently impairs coagulation, fibrin action, body fat and endothelium function (9) . Cytomegalovirus like EBV since both of them belong to Herpes family can trigger autoimmunity and chronic inflammation (10) . The outstanding feature of latency for CMV caused unusual expansion of the CMV-specific resting effector population of memoryCD8 + T cell and thus leads to developed chronic inflammation and disturbed the host immune mechanisms (11)(12)(13) .…”
