“…We showed that BMAT unsaturation was higher within the femur compared to the tibia and that BMAT unsaturation was higher within the diaphysis of the tibia and femur compared to the proximal or distal metaphysis, but we found no gender- or age-associated differences in BMAT unsaturation. Our results are comparable to a study by Bao who reported higher BMAT unsaturation within the distal femur compared to the proximal tibia, and no differences in BMAT unsaturation between young male and female subjects ( 38 ). Our results partially differ from the study by Scheller and coworkers in 5 young female subjects, as they report higher BMAT unsaturation, measured using 1 H-MRS, within the tibia compared to the femur.…”

“…This is because the peak at 0.9 ppm is very close to the peak at 1.3 ppm, which was used to generate the DDF here, and maybe partially excited by a selective pulse. This can be attributed to the unrevealed FAs peak at 4.3 ppm to the low signal-to-noise ratio of the iDQC-MRS, which is only about 10% of that of conventional MRS. 24,25 Long TE MRS and diffusion-weighted MRS techniques have been proposed to study the bone marrow FAs composition due to the transverse relaxation time of the unsaturated fatty being longer than that of the saturated components. 16 However, both methods have been applied to explore the yellow bone marrow FAs in the absence of honeycombed trabecular bone.…”

“…Then, automatic integration was performed to obtain the quantitative information of all the five crossing peaks. The composition levels of saturated and UFAs were calculated according to previous studies 23,24 using the following equations:…”

“…9 iDQC-MRS has been previously employed to improve the resolution of in vivo bone marrow spectra in the distal tibia. 10 The authors use the same methodology now in the spine to compare bone marrow fatty acid composition between postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) subjects and healthy controls (HC). The acquired 2D spectra show a good ability to spectrally resolve the most important fat peaks in both POMP subjects and HC.…”
