“…These SAMs can act as simple modifiers [68] or be used as linkers to attach various molecules to its surface such as proteins, enzymes, antibodies, or photosystem I [65,66,90,[106][107][108][109]. Because of the very high surface areas of nanoporous gold, a significantly larger amount of the modifier can be immobilized on its surface relative to a planar gold electrode.…”

“…Np-Au benefits from several desirable attributes, including large effective surface area, high electrical conductivity, well-established surface functionalization techniques, and biocompatibility 9 . Even though there has been a rapid expansion of studies on np-Au, most of them focus on np-Au's mechanical properties 10,11 , catalytic activity 12 , and biomolecular sensing performance [13][14][15] . While the desirable attributes are highly useful for several biomedical tools 16,17 , the applications in this area have been limited.…”

“…For example, NP Au-coated cantilevers undergo relevant chemo-mechanical deformation consequent to the adsorption of biomolecules [78]. NP Au-based sensors have shown remarkable selectivity towards specific prostate antigens [79] and probe DNA [80]. In addition, NP Au has been shown to allow effective electrochemical sensing of p-nitrophenol molecules [81], as well as the rapid measurement of Escherichia coli bacteria concentration in food and water [82].…”
