Detection of fungicide resistance to fludioxonil and tebuconazole in Fusarium pseudograminearum, the causal agent of Fusarium crown rot in wheat

Abstract: Fusarium crown rot (FCR) on wheat is a soil-borne disease that affects the yield and quality of the produce. In 2020, 297 Fusarium pseudograminearum isolates were isolated from diseased FCR wheat samples from eight regional areas across Hebei Province in China. Baseline sensitivity of F. pseudograminearum to fludioxonil (0.0613 ± 0.0347 μg/mL) and tebuconazole (0.2328 ± 0.0840 μg/mL) were constructed based on the in vitro tests of 71 and 83 isolates, respectively. The resistance index analysis showed no resist… Show more

“…The baseline sensitivity of F. pseudograminearum to tebuconazole (0.2328 ± 0.0840 μg/mL) was determined by in vitro testing of 83 isolates . Consequently, the findings of the current investigation may serve as a reference point for the surveillance of alterations in the susceptibility of F.…”

“…7,8 Chemical fungicide application is the most effective measure for controlling FCR because of the limited resistance genes in wheat. Some existing fungicides have been screened for FCR control; for example, hexaconazole, 9 carbendazim, 10 kresoxim-methyl, 11 azoxystrobin, 12 phenamacril and difenoconazole, 13,14 all of which exhibit good control efficiency. Unfortunately, recent studies have shown that several fungicides at certain concentrations could enhance DON biosynthesis in Fusarium spp., such as carbendazim, 15 azoxystrobin 16 and difenoconazole.…”

“…Wheat is one of the most important cereal crops that sustains more than 1/3 of the world's population, and maintaining consistent production is therefore critical to global food security. It has been estimated that wheat cultivation in China covers a total area of 2.34 million hectares with an annual production of 13.43 million tons per year [ 1 , 2 ]. However, recent research has found that infection with Fusarium crown rot (FCR) resulted in an average yield loss of 36,000 tons per year in Henan Province between 2017 and 2021 alone, with the highest annual loss being 44,000 tons [ 3 ].…”
