Detection of Myocardial Injury Using miRNAs Expression as Genetic Biomarkers in Acute Cardiac Care

Abstract: Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death globally. At present, there are many ways to diagnose this pathophysiology. The greatest disadvantages related to current biomarkers are their low specificity, low selectivity and low accuracy. A new method, extensively studied recently, is the expression of miRNAs, used as genetic biomarkers for the early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. This paper presents an update of miRNAs species expression that can serve as early diagnostic biomarkers and for the c… Show more

“…The cardiac function was examined using echocardiography, which showed normal parameters in all cases [ 21 , 35 ]. Taking into consideration that all patients are clinically vulnerable and the long-term effects of the SARS-CoV-2 infection are yet to be discover, it would be necessary to have an additional investigating tool, such as the genetic expression of miRNAs, with a higher selectivity and specificity rate than the usual biomarkers [ 36 ]. For a better analysis of myocardial dysfunctions, echocardiogram and echocardiography have proven effective, as they are used in the ‘SAFE protocol’ for critically ill neonates [ 5 , 37 , 38 ].…”

“…This reaction takes place only if it is catalyzed by the DiGeorge Syndrome Critical Region 8 (DGCR8). [43][44][45][46] The transporting protein, Exportin 5, will then act on the pre-miRNAs, which will transfer the epigenetic complex from the nucleus to the cell cytoplasm. [47][48][49] Once the signal that the complex has reached the cytoplasm is received, RNA polymerase III (Dicer) and trans-activator RNA binding protein (TRBP) attack it and lead to the formation of mature miRNAs.…”

“…Together with the augmentation of the redox status, a series of biological cellular systems are affected, such as DNA and protein destruction or the lipid status, through their destruction and the implicit production of new free radical species. Regarding the evaluation and monitoring of OS using specific serum biomarkers, the most representative to date are malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) for lipid peroxidation, while for protein peroxidation, the most important ones are carbonyl groups and nitrotyrosine [ 23 – 26 ]. Other biomarkers that could offer answers in regard to pro-oxidative and proinflammatory status are specific cytokines such as interleukin 1 (IL-1), interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 8 (IL-8), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α).…”
