Abstract:Abstract:The response of a silicon alpha detector to beta particles, electrons and photons was investigated using measurements and Monte Carlo simulations. This information is of relevance for in situ alpha spectrometry from different surfaces at ambient air pressure. According to the simulations, photon detection efficiencies were more than two orders of magnitude smaller than those of electrons. Photons generate signals mainly by Compton electrons. Counts originating from beta particles, electrons and photon… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
