Detection of True Mangroves in Indonesia Using Satellite Remote Sensing

Abstract: Mangrove existence is necessary to protect the coastal. One method that can be used to keep mangrove existence were using satellite imagery monitoring. The number of bands in the imagery led to the selection for the RGB composite bands was difficult because of many combinations to try. One technique that can be done to get the best RGB combination of an object is to use Optimum Index Factor (OIF). OIF is a statistical technique for selecting three combinations of imagery bands to visualize the image display to… Show more

“…In fact, this index uses the correlation coefficient to identify the possibility of duplication of information and entrusts the variance with the task of identifying the amount of information. Bands with lots of "information" (high standard deviation) and a little "duplication" (low correlation between bands) will produce high OIF values [63]. However, the standard deviation may not be sufficient to underline the usefulness of an image in differentiating land cover classes.…”

“…The second step was the mangrove area calculating, both those that were still vegetation and nonvegetation. Mangrove area data collection was done by photogrammetric [54,55] and terrestrial [56]. Photogrammetric method was conducted by the area calculating on a map / image Landsat 7 ETM + band 542.…”
