“…The detection rate in patients with PSA levels between 4 and 10 ng/ml was 11.8%, which is slightly lower than the 15.8% rate reported in Japanese and Korean men [3,7] , and much lower than the 25-35% rate reported in American men [8][9][10][11] . In patients with PSA levels more than 10 ng/ml also, our detection rate of 40% is lower than the 59.5% rate reported in Korean and Japanese men, and the 67% rate reported in American men [3,11] . The reason for a lower incidence of prostate cancer in Kuwaiti men has been suggested to be due to low circulating androgens and their adrenal precursors when compared to Caucasians [12] .…”

“…The detection rate of prostate cancer in the Asian population is lower than that in American men [3][4][5][6]. In two studies on Korean men, the cancer detection rate for the PSA subgroup between 4 and 10 ng/ml was 13.8% and 15.9%, [4,5] similar to the 15.8% rate in Japanese men reported by Egawa et al [6].…”

“…In Western countries, the probability of cancer is around 25% if serum PSA is between 4.1 and 10 ng/ml, and it is estimated that the probability of cancer is greater than 30% when serum PSA is higher than 10 ng/ml [1,2]. The detection rate of prostate cancer in the Asian population is lower than that in American men [3][4][5][6]. In two studies on Korean men, the cancer detection rate for the PSA subgroup between 4 and 10 ng/ml was 13.8% and 15.9%, [4,5] similar to the 15.8% rate in Japanese men reported by Egawa et al [6].…”

“…The possible reason may be due to the ethnic difference in the detection rates of prostate cancer. However, when comparing the detection rate with that of Korean men with similar ethnicity of Chinese men in the study by Yang et al in 2006, our data showed that the cancer detection rate was higher than that in his study (42.8 vs. 39.7%) [18]. The similar result was also observed when comparing our results with that in another study of Korean men by Seo et al in 2007 (42.8 vs. 32.7%) [19].…”
