Show more

“…This technique combines the advantages of the two techniques and is less expensive and less time consuming[9,22]. Although the fused MR imaging and TRUS-guiding method is regarded as a promising imaging-guided technique for prostate biopsies, multicentre studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of the technique[23]. …”

“…A subsequent retrospective study of the same system has further improved this approach by applying motion compensation for organ displacement, which increases targeting accuracy [23]. Although these pioneer works have established the “proof-of-principle” of these robotically assisted prostate biopsy systems, the continued technical improvements and larger-scale clinical trials are warranted prior the wide applications of these techniques in routine clinical practice.…”

“…Software on the latest ultrasound devices can fuse previously imported MRI datasets three-dimensionally and in real time with the B-mode image of an ultrasound examination. An electromagnetic unit that is coupled to the ultrasound probe and can track the movements of the probe is positioned next to the patient table during the biopsy for this purpose [48,49]. By selecting individual reference points on the MRI images and the B-mode image, the MRI images are adjusted and moved in parallel with the ultrasound scan ( • " Fig.…”

“…[ 6 7 8 ] Fusion imaging of suspicious prostate lesions on MRI then biopsied under ERUS guidance is currently the only reported application of ERUS fusion. [ 9 ] Comparison of cognitive fusion with technical fusion has been shown to be useful; direct comparative studies provide conflicting results in only few patients. Specialists believe cognitive fusion to be equivalent with technical fusion in expert hands, but consider the latter to be beneficial for general urologists.…”
