“…Knowledge about HIV/AIDS and its transmission can be mainly achieved by increasing acceptance towards PLWHA and making people more caring [ 10 , 11 ]. Several studies have demonstrated that people tend to have negative attitudes and report not buying vegetables from PLWHA-status sellers [ 12 , 13 , 14 ]. These PLWHA have physical, economic, social and psychological consequences as HIV-infected patients are reportedly rejected by healthcare services [ 14 ], experience poor quality treatment, are refused when applying for jobs due to HIV/AIDS status, and experience forced early resignation from their employment [ 12 , 13 ].…”

Specific details regarding the preparatory phase of the study have been published previously [ 19 ]. Briefly, ALCS organized a preliminary workshop to develop a stigma training module and to discuss the necessary adaptations to the Stigma Index protocol to fit implementation in Morocco [ 19 ].…”

“…The analysis also showed inadequate knowledge of HIV, which may be due to socio-cultural barriers to effectively communicate on taboo subjects such as premarital sex or homosexuality [ 17 ]. Socio-cultural factors may also impact HIV epidemiological data in the region, by which fears of stigma and discrimination and/or criminalisation for socially or culturally unacceptable HIV risk behaviors may lead to nondisclosure of true transmission routes [ 18 , 19 ].…”

“…The additional item in the Arabic version, "I believe I have the right to refuse to treat HIV + patients if I am concerned about legal liability," represents an important concern of HCPs in Egypt when working with HIV patients due to laws criminalizing sexual relations that may cause HIV infection. 5,40 We also conducted CFA using structural equation modeling. The model fits from the CFA provided further evidence that HIV stigma encompassed three latent factors, as theorized by the developers of the HPASS.…”
