Determinants of anterior chamber depth in a large Caucasian population and agreement between intra‐ocular lens Master and Pentacam measurements of this variable

Abstract: ABSTRACT.Purpose: To establish the main determinants of anterior chamber depth (ACD) in Caucasian subjects and examine agreement between IOL Master â (Carl Zeiss, Meditec) and Pentacam â (Oculus Inc.) ACD measurements. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, 1006 right eyes of 1006 healthy subjects were subjected to a general ophthalmologic examination using the Pentacam â , IOLMaster â and OCT RTVue â (Optovue Inc.). The variables recorded were age, sex, intra-ocular pressure, spherical refractive error, axial l… Show more

“…The ACA was independently associated with a shallower anterior chamber, as previously reported by other groups. 21,22 This was similar to observations in patients with angle-closure glaucoma, who tend to have a shallower anterior chamber and a thicker crystalline lens. 23 It should be kept in mind that what is termed anterior chamber depth is in fact the measurement of a single point measurement of the optical axis.…”

“…26 Exclusion criteria were: ocular or systemic disease, opacity of the ocular media preventing high-quality imaging, motion artefact (discontinuous vessel pattern or discontinuous disc boundary), and previous eye surgery. Inclusion criteria were: healthy Caucasian, intraocular pressure (IOP) ≤21 mmHg in both eyes, and an axial length (AL) of 21 to 27 mm (in our setting mean AL is 24 mm).…”
