This research aims to examine the relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation in Indonesia during the 1984-2022 period by using a simultaneous equation approach. Furthermore, this study considers several determinants, which consist of investment, inflation, income inequality, fossil consumption and poverty. This relationship is worth studying, especially in relation to Indonesia because Indonesia is one of the developing countries that is trying to achieve sustainable development as agreed in the sustainable development goals. The findings of this study include economic growth affecting environmental degradation by 1.15 percent and environmental degradation affecting economic growth by 2.41 percent. Furthermore, economic growth was strengthened by investment and weakened by inflation and income inequality. Then, environmental degradation is reinforced by income inequality, consumption of fuel oil and poverty. This study recommends that the government implement a sustainable development policy with the principle of meeting the needs of the present without sacrificing meeting the needs of future generations.

Environmental damage is a topic of great concern among researchers and receives special attention in global circles. One of the major contributors to environmental damage is the emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. In this research, the influence of corruption on carbon emissions in six ASEAN countries is investigated, using indicators of economic growth, renewable energy, and urbanization. The Fixed Effect Model is used as the method of analysis, and the research data used is from 1996 to 2019, based on its availability. The research findings suggest that there is an existence of Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) in the form of an inverted U relationship. Renewable energy has a negative effect, while urbanization has a positive effect on carbon emissions. Additionally, control of corruption has been found to have a positive effect on carbon emissions. Based on these findings, it is essential to promote maximum economic growth, use renewable energy, limit urbanization, and increase control of corruption to help mitigate carbon emissions and environmental damage.

This study explores the interrelations among environmental quality (EQ), poverty (POV), and green growth (GG) across 34 provinces in Indonesia from 2015 to 2023, employing a simultaneous equation model (SEM) to address the gap in prior research which often overlooked the concurrent analysis of these variables. It was found that POV exerts a significant negative impact on EQ, quantified at a reduction of 0.235 percent. Conversely, GG contributes positively to EQ, enhancing it by 0.197 percent. The findings underscore the necessity for policies that integrate environmental, social, and economic considerations, advocating for inclusive and sustainable development strategies. These strategies are pivotal for fostering economic opportunities that enhance community welfare while ensuring environmental sustainability. The study concludes that a nuanced understanding of the relationships between these endogenous factors is crucial for effective policy formulation, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that harmonizes developmental objectives with environmental stewardship.
