Determinants of Electric Cars Purchase Intention in Poland: Personal Attitudes v. Economic Arguments

Abstract: Urban e-mobility, seen as a part of complex and multidimensional European Green Deal plan, is essential for cities. However, it cannot be implemented without a common social commitment accompanied by a shared, strong belief in its advantages. Even if urban authorities and central governments would encourage their citizens to buy or share an electric vehicle (EV), the shift to EV will not be significant without people convinced that the idea of becoming zero-emission is economically viable and rational to them … Show more

“…It is necessary to increase investments in the construction of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, both in cities and on intercity routes. The Polish government's Strategy for Responsible Development until 2020 assumed the construction of 6000 charging stations in the country by 2020, but in practice the construction of the infrastructure was not as dynamic as planned [81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88].…”

“…Looking at electric vehicles as innovations, incentive schemes to promote their spread are defined at a national level, which may include direct subsidies, tax incentives, lower insurance fees, toll discounts, free parking, or bus lane use [5,[158][159][160]. On the one hand, they can contribute to differences in market shares between countries, but on the other hand, the social system in which they are introduced also plays a major role [37,[161][162][163]. In addition, as the EV fleet grows, it is particularly important to increase the number of charging stations [164][165][166][167][168].…”

“…In general, the electric vehicle (EV) uptake over conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles is argued to be influenced by several different financial, technological, and societal factors. The range of electric vehicles or range anxiety is considered to be one of the major issues in EV [14] and electric motorcycle (EM) uptake [15], among others such as price, long charging times and insufficient numbers of suitable charging points [14].…”
