Determinants of High-School Dropout: A Longitudinal Study in a Deprived Area of Japan

Abstract: BackgroundOur objective in this study was to find determinants of high-school dropout in a deprived area of Japan using longitudinal data, including socio-demographic and junior high school-period information.MethodsWe followed 695 students who graduated the junior high school located in a deprived area of Japan between 2002 and 2010 for 3 years after graduation (614 students: follow-up rate, 88.3%). Multivariable log-binomial regression models were used to calculate the prevalence ratios (PRs) for high-school… Show more

Parents' abuse and neglect of children are a reason for school absenteeism (Tabuchi et al, 2018). Lack of parental engagement, absenteeism follow-up, interest in assignments and academic support are some of the reasons for school absenteeism (Hendron & Kearney, 2016).…”

“…In a study, Tabuchi et al (2018) analysed the determinants of high school dropouts in Japan's deprived areas. The Frequency Ratios (PRs) for high-school dropout were determined employing multivariable log-binomial regression models with Multiple Imputation (MI) to compensate for non-response at follow-up.…”
