Determinants of Secondary Traumatic Stress among Korean Social Workers for Suicide Prevention Programs

Abstract

Abstract. In the present study, the actual state of secondary traumatic stress among Korean social workers for suicide prevention programs was figured out and factors that affect the secondary traumatic stress were examined. According to the results of a survey conducted with 56 current Korean social workers for suicide prevention programs, the average score of their secondary traumatic stress was 37.71 points and 53.6% of the respondents showed secondary traumatic stress. According to the results of multiple regression analysis, the degree of exhaustion, personal empowerment, relational empowerment, weekly working hours, and monthly incomes were significantly related with secondary traumatic stress.
