“…There was also a significant difference between the two groups concerning the number of marriages such that those who had married more than once were exposed to a higher risk of cervical cancer (OR = 3.33, CI 95%, 1.28-8.69). Others have also arrived at similar results (Cooper et al, 2007;Momtahen et al, 2009;Singer, 1996;Vessey, Lawless, McPherson, & Yeates 1983). This study also shows that the husband's previous marriage is a risk factor that increases the chance of cancer by an OR of 4.41 (Giuseppe et al, 2008).…”

“…After including these variables, (a) the models for both men and women become more robust, (b) there is evidence that the HBM variables are embedded within socio-economic conditions and do not operate independent of them, and (c) the frailty term loses its significance in the model for women. These results tell us that sexual behavior in general, and early sexual intercourse in particular, may be a reflection of low socioeconomic status and the rationalities that influence economic survival (Cooper et al 2007;Mathews et al 2008;Mensch et al 2005). Various authors have referred to the relative disadvantage of Africans or blacks in South Africa compared to other racial groups (see Hallman andGrant 2004 andMacintyre et al 2004).…”
