MahayograjGuggul is an ancient ayurvedic medicine, prescribed for various joint disorders like arthritis, gout, and rheumatism. The present research was envisaged to develop a simple, sensitive, and comprehensive analytical method for standardization of Mahayograj Guggul. The analysis was conducted for gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, vanillic acid, cinnamic acid, piperine, guggulsterone-E, and guggulsterone-Z by high-performance thin-layer chromatography, and additionally ferulic acid, ellagic acid, and picroside I by ultra high-performance liquid chromatography. These developed methods were validated as per international guidelines, and were found linear (r 2 > 0.99), sensitive, precise (relative standard deviation < 5%), and accurate with recovery values (85-105%). The limit of detection and quantification were in the range of 0.11-23.6 and 0.33-71.51 μg/g. Gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry was used to develop Mahayograj Guggul fingerprinting profile and to identify mid-polar or nonpolar compounds. Proximate analysis was used to ascertain the functional groups present in Mahayograj Guggul. Ultra high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry were further employed to authenticate quality reproducibility in the active ingredients of Mahayograj Guggul in six commercial batches. Taken together, these analytical methods provide a scientific basis and reference for quality control evaluation of Mahayograj Guggul and similar traditional broad-spectrum formulations.

The SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as an unprecedented emergency state in healthcare system and global challenge. In recent decade, the function of exogenous H 2 S in the treatment of respiratory diseases has been investigated using H 2 S-donor agents. Ferula foetida is a medicinal plant that is traditionally used in respiratory diseases including asthma and viral respiratory diseases. The oleo-gum of this plant is a rich source of several organic sulfides including thiophenes, disulfides and polysulfide derivatives, which can act as H 2 S-donor agents. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of Covexir ® (F. foetida oleo-gum) treatment as a rich source of H 2 S-donor compounds in clinical presentations of patients with COVID-19.The efficacy of Covexir ® was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebocontrolled trial in outpatients with COVID-19. Covexir ® could significantly inhibit cough when compared to the placebo group (p < .01 and p < 001, respectively).Moreover, there was a significant difference (p < 001) between the two groups in dyspnea symptom at follow-up interval of 7 day after receiving Covexir ® . Furthermore, on days 3 and 7, statistically significant differences were observed in myalgia, anorexia, anosmia, and sense of taste severity between two groups. Our findings revealed that Covexir ® was very safe in the treatment of COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms and it can be recommended to improve clinical presentations of patients with COVID-19 such as cough, shortness of breath, myalgia, anorexia, anosmia, and sense of taste.

The morphological traits of growth in aboveground and underground organs of Ferula foetida found in Mangystau, depending on the age and place habitat of the plant, have been studied for the first time. A very high variability (up to 54-98%) of the great majority of the morphological traits, except for sizes of leaves of the 1st rosette and length of the main root before branching (12-26%), is noted for all the studied populations, which is explained by almost proportional participation in formation of composition of populations with species of different age. Meanwhile, variation of isomers in both, aboveground and underground parts within each age-grade declines by several-fold (<10%) and remains stable regardless of the living environment.
