Determination of ambroxol in syrups using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy

Abstract: Recebido em 6/8/08; aceito em 19/1/09; publicado na web em 3/7/09 This paper reports an analytical method for the determination of ambroxol in micellar medium by spot test-diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The reflectance measurements were performed analyzing the colored compound (λ= 520 nm) produced from the reaction between ambroxol and p-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde on the surface filter paper. The linear range was from 1.21 × 10 −3 to 9.65 × 10 −3 mol L -1 (500 -4000 µg mL -1). The limit of detection and qu… Show more

“…Some analytical methods have been reported for the determination of LCD either alone [6][7][8][9] or in combination with other drugs using high performance liquid chromatography [10][11][12][13][14][15], thin layer chromatography [16] and UV spectrophotometry [17][18][19][20][21][22]. As well, a number of methods have been reported for the individual determination of ABH [23][24][25][26][27], and in combination with other drugs in pharmaceutical dosage form by high performance liquid chromatography [28][29][30][31][32][33], liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy/mass spectroscopy [34], thin layer chromatography [35], UV spectrophotometry [36,37] and high performance thin layer chromatography [38,39].…”

“…The above three pharmacopoeias describe potentiometry method for its estimation [7][8][9] . Literature survey reveals that diffuse reflectance spectroscopy 10 , spectrophotometry 11,12 , RP-HPLC 13 , stability indicating HPTLC 14 and acid dye methods 15 The combination of Levocetirizine and Ambroxol is not official in any pharmacopoeia; hence no official method is available for estimation of these two drugs in combined dosage form. Literature survey reveals that several RP-HPLC [16][17][18] and spectrophotometric 19 methods have been reported for estimation of Levocetirizine and Ambroxol in combined dosage form.…”
