Determination of Appropriate Umbilicus Position during Abdominoplasty in Male Patients

Bishara S. Atiyeh,
Saif E. Emsieh,
Amir E. Ibrahim
et al.

Abstract: Background: Abdominoplasty techniques are well documented. The ideal position of the umbilicus has, however, received limited attention. Unfortunately, umbilicus position is not universally agreed upon in male cosmetic abdominoplasty. This study was conducted to determine the ideal umbilicus anthropometric measurements in young men, and the relationships between umbilical position and anterior trunk and torso reference points that may be applicable to intraoperative positioning. It is aimed also at… Show more

“… 7 Atiye determined that the appropriate umbilical position during abdominoplasty in male patients has a constant golden number relationship that can be identified only between N–N (internipple distance) and U-AX (umbilicus-anterior axillary fold distance). 8 Hoyos proposed that male and female patients have an ideal umbilical zone based on the distance from the xiphoid process to the pubis. In female patients, this zone lies between the junction of the two upper-thirds with the lower third, and for male patients, lies between the two upper-thirds and the third quarter over a line between the xiphoid process and the pubis.…”
