“…A typical CLD‐TPD experiment was conducted by using the same thermogravimetric analysis instrument as IPA‐TPD, except CLD was used as the adsorbate. A larger basic molecule, TPP, was used to evaluate the acid sites on the external surface of BEA zeolite as suggested previously . 3DOm‐i BEA was first calcined at 823 K for 8 h in an air flow to remove the adsorbed impurities.…”

“…The Brønsted acid sites on the NB, AB and PdOAB materials were 2.89, 8.66 and 3.51 mmol g -1 , respectively, while Lewis acid sites were 4.08, 3.29 and 7.16 mmol g -1 , respectively. It was confirmed that the catalytic efficiency of AB is better than NB due to a high Brønsted acid sites, because the Friedel-Craft acylation required Brønsted acid sites for the formation of the acylium ion as the intermediate [15]. Even though, the Brønsted acid sites of the PdOAB decreased compared with AB catalyst, however, the catalytic activity was better.…”

“…From the SEM (Figure 2(f)) and XRD (Figure 3(c)) results, the tetragonal palladium oxide was located on the surface of the material, therefore increased the Lewis acid sites of the catalyst material. Many researchers reported that the catalyzed acylation reaction mechanism strongly depended on the acidity properties of the materials [15,35,37]. The AB material had higher Brønsted acid sites, therefore it showed a higher catalytic activity than the NB material and gave a higher yield toward Friedel-Craft acylation reaction.…”

“…For 2,4-DMQ, as a bulky basic molecule, it can poison the acid sites irreversibly, and its molecule diameter is greater than the pore diameter of HZSM-5 catalyst. 11,12 Therefore, the external acid sites will be poisoned selectively when HZSM-5 catalyst is treated with 2,4-DMQ, whereas the internal acid sites will be kept intact. The molecular structure of 2,4-DMQ is shown in Fig.…”
