Determination of ICRF antenna fields in the vicinity of a 3-D Faraday shield structure

Abstract: A three-dimensional (3-D) magnetostatic analysis developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been used to calculate the electromagnetic transmission properties of representative Faraday shield designs. The analysis uses the long-wavelength approximation to obtain a 3-D Laplace solution for the maguctic scalar potential over one poloidal period of the Faraday shield, from which the complete magnetic field distribution may be obtained. Once the magnetic field distributions in the presence and absence of a Far… Show more

“…Electromagnetic codes have been developed to calculate the transmission properties of the Faraday shield designs and to determine the ICRF antenna fields in the vicinity of a 3D Faraday shield structure (e.g. [10][11][12][13]). One of the most active topics of research in this area in past years has been the examination of the role and necessity of the Faraday shield [14], which had been found to be an important element of the wave launching structure.…”

“…In this work, we discuss the RF heating phenomenon of the ICRF antenna. The RF heating profile on the ICRF antenna is one of the critical issues to determine the performance of the antenna for long-pulse operation and has already been well studied by several authors [9][10][11][12][13]. An accurate understanding of the profile is needed to prevent a hardware failure.…”
