Determination of iohexol and iothalamate in serum and urine by capillary electrophoresis

Abstract: Estimation of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is essential to assess kidney function. Iodine-containing contrast agents detection by HPLC has been proposed as a safe alternative for inulin or radioactive compounds. However, HPLC is a time-consuming and labor-intensive method. The aim of this study was to develop an assay for iohexol and iothalamate using capillary electrophoresis. Iohexol and iothalamate were directly analyzed by CE in serum and urine, using photometric detection (246 nm). Serum peak height … Show more

“…The most encountered analytical techniques are liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (LC-UV) [6,7] or coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) [8]. Other techniques such as capillary electrophoresis and X-ray fluorescence are also reported in the literature [9,10].…”

“…Клиренс йогексола может осуществляться либо клиренсом из плазмы, либо клиренсом с мочой [46,47]. Анализ йогексола можно проводить с помощью высокоэффективной жидкостной хроматографии (ВЭЖХ), химического измерения, основанного на определении содержания йода, рентгеновской адсорбционной спектроскопии или капиллярного электрофореза [48]. В клинической практике ВЭЖХ является наиболее используемым методом из-за ее чувствительности, специфичности, а также гибкости.…”

“…Based on personal communications with vendors, HPLC-UV analysers cost $65,000-200,000, while an LC-MS/MS analyser costs $320,000-500,000. Capillary electrophoresis has been used for iohexol measurement but has not been extensively validated [25]. HPLC-UV likely offers the best compromise between technical expertise required, robustness, cost and availability in the African context.…”
