Determination of Kinetics in Gas-Liquid Reaction Systems. An Overview

Abstract: Abstract:The aim of this paper is to present a brief review of the determination methods of reaction kinetics in gas-liquid systems with a special emphasis on CO2 absorption in aqueous alkanolamine solutions. Both homogenous and heterogeneous experimental techniques are described with the corresponding theoretical background needed for the interpretation of the results. The case of CO2 reaction in aqueous solutions of methyldiethanolamine is discussed as an illustrative example. It was demonstrated that variou… Show more

“…Also, the concentration of carbon dioxide and thus the reaction rate was relatively so small that the amount and concentration of calcium acetate was not very much affected during the experiment. This outcome is in agreement with other studies on chemical absorption of carbon dioxide by various reactants in the literature …”

“…As stated earlier, investigation of the physical mass transfer coefficient of the used stirred cell reactor was done separately and it was found to be 6.812 × 10 −6 m·s −1 [Ref. ] at the experimental conditions of this work, which is in good agreement with other works in literature . The diffusion coefficient of carbon dioxide was also investigated, and using the experimental results a correlation was developed: truerightDCnormalO2Ca()normalCH3normalCOO2=left1050.133.26·xCa()normalCH3normalCOO2left×0.33em109·e1895T.…”

“…That is because the results are pretty much affected by the method of analyses, assumptions made as well as chemicals employed. If the reaction rate constant of the system in this work is compared with the reported data of conventional systems in which alkaline solutions were used and the contribution of the carbonate ion reaction was considered, the results are quite close to each other making the proposed chemical system a good alternative.…”

“…The kinetic studies are of great importance for both the laboratory research and industrial applications . The intrinsic kinetics, which could also be used as an auxiliary method to verify the mechanism, have not been reported so far for our reaction system.…”
