Determination of optimum parameters for esterification in high free fatty acid olive oil and ultrasound-assisted biodiesel production

Abstract: In this study, biodiesel was produced from high free fatty acid (FFA) oil obtained from waste olives, whose food quality deteriorated by falling from the tree to the ground. The FFA value of the oil obtained from waste olives was determined as 23% by titration method. In order to produce biodiesel with high conversion efficiency, esterification process was carried out to reach at least 1% FFA value in the first stage of the study. Acid esterification experiments were designed according to Taguchi's L 16 (4 2 2… Show more

“…Today, humankind mostly meets the energy it needs from fossil sources. Reasons such as the increasing effect of fossil fuels on global warming and the rapid depletion of their resources have increased the tendency towards renewable alternative energy sources [1]. Biofuels are preferred as an alternative energy source in internal combustion engines.…”

“…Third-generation biodiesel feedstocks generally contain oils and oily substances obtained from microorganisms such as algae. Such raw materials can reduce the need for agricultural land and can also be used in wastewater treatment [6]. These generations differ according to the sources, sustainability and environmental impact of the raw materials.…”
