Determination of organic contaminants by the Grob closed‐loop‐stripping technique

Abstract: A modified Grob closed‐loop‐stripping device is currently being used to concentrate organic contaminants from drinking water. The identification and quantification of organic contaminants at the nanogran per litre (part‐per‐trillion) level are accomplished by a computerized glass capillary gas chromatography–mass spectrometry system. Applications of closed‐loop‐stripping analysis (CLSA) for monitoring water by water utilities, for studying the use and effects of alternative disinfectants in drinking water, and… Show more

“…Coleman and co-workers (17,18) previously used HgCl2 at 10 mg/L to preserve 1-gal water samples for CLS and reported no problems. However, although unspecified in their paper, their corresponding reported recovery data (9,17,25) were from spike samples that did not contain HgCl2 (26).…”

“…CLSA is a widely used method for preconcentration of taste and odor compounds from aqueous samples [15,16]. The CLSA method developed by Grob et al [17] uses activated carbon as an adsorbent for preconcentration and analysis of purgeable organics at the parts per trillion level.…”

Το φίλτρο εκχυλίζεται τρεις φορές με CS 2(Grob and Zuecher 1976;Coleman et al, 1981), μέχρι τελικού όγκου 30 μL CS 2 .
