Determination of PAHs and BTEX in Soil and Crops (Cocoyam and Cassava) of Crude Oil Impacted Community, Mogho Gokana, Nigeria

Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the impact of crude oil spillage on soil and harvested tuber crops (cocoyam and cassava) in Mogho Community. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX) were investigated using Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detector. Tuber crops and soils from crude oil impacted area of Mogho Community were used as the sample; while soil not impacted by crude oil were collected from Bori was used as the control. The results obtained for PAHs… Show more

“…These chemicals increase water aggravation by affecting biota and thus they reduce the quality of aquatic ecosystems in warmer and more humid climates (Rydh Stenström et al, 2021). Algae produce alternative solutions to all these problems, and these creatures consist of a unique group containing compounds such as pigments, protein, lipids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids, steroids, and vitamins (Borowitzka, 1999;Ogbonda et al, 2019;Pulz & Gross, 2004;Sajilata et al, 2008). Microalgae are utilized in some areas such as food chemistry, bioremediation, biofuel and bioplastic through these essential contents (Borowitzka, 1999;Pulz & Gross, 2004).…”
